Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow Stephen Donnelly has welcomed the announcement this week that the former MSD plant in Rathdrum has been sold.

The active pharmaceutical ingredient production facility plant closed in 2013 with the loss of 280 jobs. Since then the IDA has been working to find a new buyer for the site.

Deputy Donnelly commented, “I am delighted to see that the site has been sold. In the four years that the site has been closed, I am aware that the loss of employment in the area has been a worry for the local community.

“In particular, the high-quality jobs that an employer such as MSD provided were a boost not only to employees, but the whole of the local area.

“I look forward to working with both the IDA, the new owners and my fellow representatives to get the new business up and running, providing the high quality local jobs that Wicklow needs in as short a timeframe as is feasible.”
