Cork North-West Fianna Fáil TD Michael Moynihan has congratulated Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy from Coláiste Treasa in Kanturk, County Cork after they were announced as winners of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS.
Their project, ‘Alcohol Consumption: Does The Apple Fall Far From the Tree?’ investigated whether there is a correlation between parental alcohol consumption and teenage alcohol consumption.
Deputy Moynihan commented, “This is a fantastic achievement for Ian and Eimear and Coláiste Treasa. I want to pay tribute to them and their teacher Derry O’Donovan who guided them through their work. This was an extremely timely project as there is much public debate about alcohol consumption levels in Ireland and its social impact.
“This year’s Young Scientist exhibition received its highest ever number of entries, over 2000 projects from more than 360 schools across including dozens in Cork. The exhibition gives students an opportunity to display their work in research, analysis, technology and innovation and I hope more students will be inspired by Coláiste Treasa to take part again next year.”
