Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher says that the latest IMNO figures reveal a worrying trend in the number of patients on trolleys in our Emergency Departments. Today’s figures show 601 people on trolleys this morning, which means that every day this week, the trolley figures have exceeded 600.
“This must be one of the worst weeks ever experienced for Emergency Department overcrowding. Even during the first week of January when we saw a new daily record set, there were still fewer than 500 people on trolleys that Friday”, said Deputy Kelleher.
“This week’s figures are absolutely shocking with an average daily total of 622. The situation seems to be getting worse.
“In January, we saw the publication of the bed capacity review by Minister Harris. At the time I called for an audit to identify quick wins over the next number of months to increase capacity before next winter.
“The Minister needs to show a greater sense of urgency in tackling this problem.”
