Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth has called for further IDA investment and visits for Cavan-Monaghan. According to figures provided to Fianna Fáil, Cavan-Monaghan accounted for 0.8% of all IDA visits nationwide in 2018.
Deputy Smyth commented “Of the 607 site visits conducted by the IDA in 2018 only 5 of them took place in Cavan-Monaghan. This is shockingly low and shows a complete disinterest by the government in supporting our region.
“IDA visits are conducted to showcase an area and promote investment into the region. It is evident we have been neglected through 2018 with only 2 visits in Cavan and 3 in Monaghan. The government makes much of their regional locations and how they foster development beyond the five main cities, but this is clearly not happening in our constituency.
“The facts speak for themselves. We have been basically ignored last year. The government must show a greater interest in Cavan-Monaghan,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
