Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Eamon Scanlon has slammed the Minister for Transport as it has emerged he has declined an invite to the Transport Committee to discuss viable rural transport options.
Deputy Scanlon commented “The Minister has shown contempt for anywhere other than his own constituency. People are being left in isolation in rural Ireland as the effects of his policies grind transport to a halt and restrict commuters.
“The Minister has told my party colleague, Robert Troy TD, that he was too busy to attend the committee and that the National Transport Authority would be there to answer any questions.
“He has no problems involving himself in issues within his constituency but fails to recognise he is a Minister with national responsibility. My own constituents across Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and South Donegal are all being hit by increasingly limited restrictions and reduced transport links. The Minister must be held to account, yet he runs from committee hearings,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
