Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has this morning (Thursday 08/09/2011) said the decision to wind up or close MFG Teo should have been avoided through direct Government intervention.
Ó Domhnaill said: “MFG Two was established in 1991 to deliver the first ever Rural Development Programme (LEADER) for the Gaeltacht Community. The company administers both Government and EU Funding to support individuals, community groups and micro developments through various programmes including; LEADER Programme 2007-2013, Warmer Homes Scheme, Rural Transport Programme, LDSIP and the Jobs Initiative Programme.”
“This decision to close the organisation should have been avoided, however the issue must now be managed to ensure the full reinstatement of employment and services. MFG employs 34 people with 15 of these posts located in the Donegal Gaeltacht.”
“I am calling on the Minister for the Environment to personally intervene in this situation and ensure the organisation is re-established without delay.”
