Fianna Fáil TD for Cork South Central Michael McGrath is encouraging sports clubs across Cork city and county to register for the next round of Sports Capital Programme grants.  The applications process is expected to reopen early in the new year.

Deputy McGrath commented, “The Sports Capital Programme provides grants to sports clubs and community organisations to upgrade and develop high quality sustainable facilities and equipment.  This funding, which can be used for things like new pitches, floodlights, dressing rooms or sports halls, as well as buying or upgrading equipment, can reduce the huge cost burden that so many clubs face when undertaking improvement works.

“The opening date for applications has not been formally announced but it’s widely expected that the process will begin early in the new year.  Applications can only be submitted online and I would urge all local groups to register and begin preparing their applications ahead of the opening date.

“Communities across Cork stand to benefit greatly from these sports grants and improved facilities and equipment will hopefully encourage more people to get involved in sports and other activities.  Groups can register at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie.  The website has all the information needed about registering and applying for grants as well as a section where questions can be submitted”.
