Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Children Charlie McConalogue has welcomed confirmation that 23 Donegal childcare facilities have been granted State funding this year. However, Deputy McConalogue has called on the Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald to commit to a new round of funding next year for the hundreds of Donegal childcare projects that were not granted funding this year.
The Donegal North East TD said, “This is great news for the children, families and staff attached to these 23 childcare facilities in Donegal that have secured support from the State this year. However it is a huge disappointment to the hundreds more that applied and were rejected. They need to know that this is not their last chance to secure funding and that they will be able to apply again next year.
“Many of the unsuccessful applicants in Donegal are busy childcare facilities in serious need of upgrade or expansion. The fact that they have now been excluded from the Government’s list this year will be real concern to them and the families they support. They need some reassurance that this opportunity will be open to them again next year.
“I wish to congratulate those childcare facilities, montessori schools, play groups and day cares across Co Donegal that have been granted funding this year. I am certain that this will be put to good use and will benefit hundreds of children in their communities.”
