Donegal North East Deputy Charlie McConalogue has welcomed the extension granted to Gaelcholáiste Chineál Eoghain by the Department of Education.
It was confirmed yesterday by Donegal VEC that the extension has been granted.
Deputy McConalogue commented: “This will include a year extension for the school to review their current situation.
“This is good news for the future of Gaelcholáiste Chineál Eoghain. The school had asked for more time to assess the current circumstances regarding the extension and development of the school, which has been granted.
“This extra year allows for some breathing space for the school so they can build their numbers and work to develop a strong future.
“It would have have been wrong to close the school following six years of hard work by many stakeholders. The expansion of education in Irish throughout Inishowen will undoubtedly be a slow-process; however, I am sure that it is a process worth following in order to preserve our language,” Deputy McConalogue concluded.
