Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Children Charlie McConalogue has said he is shocked and deeply disturbed by the further revelations of mishandling of clerical child abuse allegations in the Diocese of Cloyne.
Commenting after the redacted portions of the report were published today, Deputy McConalogue said: “This is just further evidence of the terrible wrong-doing that took place against a generation of innocent young people at the hands of those they trusted. What was published today details more hurt, more abuse, more pain.
“What’s clear is that the continual drip-feeding of individual reports and portions of reports is not bringing any conclusion to this terrible issue. In that context, I repeat my calls for a Commission of Investigation to take a national coordinated approach to investigating the handling of allegations of abuse by Church and State authorities in each diocese.”
