Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon-Galway Eugene Murphy has criticised the lack of Gardaí assigned to Garda divisions in Roscommon and Galway. New figures from the Department of Justice show that 18 new Garda recruits were assigned to the Roscommon-Longford Garda Division and 36 to the Galway division.

Deputy Murphy commented “I have repeatedly raised concerns with the level of Garda numbers in our constituency. The new figures released from the Department of Justice are totally unacceptable and we will continue to pressurise the Government to ensure we receive our fair share of Garda allocations.

“The Roscommon-Longford constituency is tied bottom of the lowest number of new recruits assigned to any of the divisions. The numbers show a clear disregard for rural Ireland and will cause great worry to my constituents.

“I will continue to raise my concerns, and the concerns of those in Roscommon-Galway, with the Minister for Justice to ensure we are provided with adequate resources,” concluded Deputy Murphy.
