Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Eamon Scanlon, has said full planning permission has been granted by Sligo County Council to upgrade the Water Treatment Plant in Lough Talt, Sligo.
Homes in the area have repeatedly been on a boil water notice following the discovery of cryptosporidium in the water.
He commented, “It is very welcome that full planning permission has been granted for the upgrade works at Lough Talt.
“I have repeatedly raised this matter in the Dáil and was pleased to push forward the matter when it was caught up between Departments due to IROPI legislation.
“There are up to 13 thousand homes affected by this boil water notice. I have requested a meeting with Irish Water to ensure this project now moves forward.
“It is important that now, with full permission granted, that all efforts are made to have upgrade works completed as quickly as possible,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
