Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Séamus Kirk has criticised the Government for failing to include County Louth as part of the publicity campaign to support its recently announced tourism initiative.
Deputy Kirk made the comments after the revelation that Louth has not been included in the literature used to support the tourism initiative. The Louth TD has called on the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport to ensure that the literature is not circulated until County Louth has been included.
“I welcome the initiative launched by Fáilte Ireland that will see the introduction of an ‘Ancient East trail’ along the east and south east coast” said Deputy Kirk.
“However I am concerned by the fact that County Louth has been completely overlooked during the announcement. The promotional literature circulated by Fáilte Ireland as part of the launch makes no reference to Louth at all.
“This is a major blow to the tourism sector in Louth. It appears the literature is to be used in a publicity campaign to support the new tourism initiative. How can we be expected to attract tourists to Louth if Fáilte Ireland is not even mentioning the county in their promotional literature?
“I am calling on the Government to address this issue and ensure Louth gets its fair share of the publicity as part of this tourism initiative. The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport must ensure that the literature is amended to highlight the various tourist attractions in Louth. No literature should be circulated until this issue is addressed” said Deputy Kirk.
