“The decision by the Commission for Energy Regulation to grant approval for an extension of the natural gas network to Listowel can act as a major catalyst for the economic development of the entire county,” said Kerry Fianna Fáil TD, John Brassil.

The extension from Foynes to Listowel will cost €20 million, and will use Kerry Ingredients as its flagship anchor load ensuring commercial viability.

“Not only does this extension enable Kerry Ingredients to continue with its proposals to invest in a combined heat and power facility, but will ensure that more businesses, and potential future enterprises, access a reliable, cheaper source of heat,” said Brassil.

“Homes will also benefit as they will be able to access this cleaner source of heating, and this is something that is good news for everyone.”

“This is a major boost for Listowel, but for the entire county as well. It can act as an economic catalyst for the region, and may be what is needed to get foreign companies excited about investing in the county.”

“The IDA should use this announcement as a way of selling Kerry to companies looking to locate, and invest, in Ireland,” concluded Brassil.
