Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin South – West John Lahart says the decision taken by Lidl to construct a new store on Fortunestown Lane is a huge boost to the local community.
Lidl first opened its store on Fortunestown Lane in 2006 but the outlet was forced to close down earlier this month after the building was extensively damaged during looting.
Deputy Lahart said, “The decision by Lidl to construct a new store on Fortunestown Lane is to be commended. The news is a massive boost to the local community and demonstrates Lidl’s commitment to the area.
“The local community have rallied behind the staff impacted by the sudden closure of the store. It has been heart lifting and a clear demonstration that the small number of people who engaged in criminal activity in the wake of Storm Emma simply do not represent the local community.
“I’m hopeful that the construction of the new store can get underway as soon as possible. The wider community should not have to suffer as a result of the disgraceful behaviour of a select few people,” concluded Deputy Lahart.
