Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Health, Billy Kelleher TD, says today’s leaked internal report on high risk to patient safety across the health service is yet another damning indictment of Minister James Reilly’s handling of his Department.
Deputy Kelleher said the story in today’s Irish Times, which outlines the leaked internal report on the HSE’s risk register, is unacceptable particularly when patients’ lives are being put at risk.
“These revelations in today’s leaked internal HSE report confirms what Fianna Fáil has been saying for over a year about the high risk to public safety arising from Minister James Reilly’s handling of the health service.
“This report is a damning indictment of Government policy and will cause huge amounts of anxiety amongst patients and their families. Minister Reilly needs to clarify urgently how these concerns are going to be addressed.
“What is of particular concern is that Irish cancer care may now fail to reach basic safety standards and speedy delivery of care. This will impact on every family in Ireland. While these revelations are frightening they are not surprising, Minster Reilly needs to urgently change his priorities and focus on frontline services to patients, which he has failed abysmally to do.
“These are not political accusations, healthcare managers in the HSE have confirmed that the health services to patients are at high risk .
“Minister Reilly must confirm or deny that patient safety is at high risk in our hospitals. He needs to take charge and address the concerns raised in this report immediately.”
