Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Brendan Smith has labelled the British Government response to motions from Dáil Éireann seeking action on the Dublin Monaghan bombings troubling and disappointing.
Deputy Smith said “Once again I have raised with An Tánaiste and the Minister for Foreign Affairs the response, or lack of response, from the British Government following motions from Dáil Éireann.
“It is most regrettable and unacceptable that the British Government continues to ignore the requests of Dáil Éireann as outlined in motions passed unanimously in 2008, 2011 and 2016.
“I met the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Karen Bradley MP, in Westminster and in Downing Street and emphasised very strongly to her the need for a positive response by the British Government.
“For decades now, survivors and families of the victims have been denied justice and the truth in relation to the perpetrators of those heinous acts. The British Government must take this matter seriously considering the views of Dáil Éireann and show respect to the families and their relatives who deserve, at least the truth, into those awful atrocities after so many years,” concluded Deputy Smith.
