Labour TD for Dublin North Central should immediately restate his belief that it ‘would be preferable’ that the EU Treaty signed up to last week by Enda Kenny ‘would go to the people’ by way of referendum according to his constituency colleague, Fianna Fáil’s Deirdre Heney.
Cllr Heney said, “Last Friday on RTÉ, Aodhain Ó Riordáin plainly stated that the document agreed in Brussels should ‘go to the people’. I agree with Deputy Ó Riordáin on this issue, and believe that the scale of changes in terms of the economic management of our affairs merits the people being consulted.
Comments this morning from a Labour Party spokesperson differs from the comments of Deputy Ó Riordáin. I am now calling on Deputy Ó Riordáin to restate his position and, if brought to a vote in the Dáil, that he will stand by his convictions that the EU Treaty is an issue which ‘needs to go to the people’.”
