Louth Fianna Fáil TD Seams Kirk has described today’s announcement that Ebay is to create 450 in Dundalk as “an extremely significant development and a major boost for the economy of the North East.”
Deputy Kirk said: “This is very good news for Louth today and a significant investment for the country. I want to pay tribute to the IDA officials and Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton who have been working hard to bring this development to fruition. The local benefits from this investment in the North East will be felt for years to come.
“Ebay and PayPal have made major investments in Ireland and today’s announcement is a sign of continued confidence in the country. In fact Ireland has continued to be a very attractive location for foreign investors despite the economic downturn in recent years. However we do need to increase our own investment in developing language skills.
“It has been commented on publicly in the multi-national industry that there is a deficit in the languages sector in Ireland. In order to ensure that we can continue to attract inward investment and ensure that these jobs can be filled without the need for workers to be brought in for key positions we should be investing in increased language skills.”
