Louth Fianna Fáil TD Seamus Kirk has welcomed news today that US firm PayPal is to create 1,000 jobs in Dundalk over the next four years.

“This is a huge boost to Dundalk and the entire North East region and will have a direct benefit to the local economy. PayPal opened its European Operations Centre in Blanchardstown in Dublin in 2003 with the support of the IDA. It has grown significantly since then and more than 1,500 people are now employed there.  Now after another successful year, the US firm is to open a new operation in Dundalk.

“Today’s announcement is a vote of confidence in this country. It proves that Ireland remains a very attractive place to do business. Over the years we have built a strong international reputation as a global technology hub, attracting large multinationals like eBay, Google, Facebook and PayPal.  These companies have located here because of our highly-skilled work force and favourable business conditions. We must continue to focus on Ireland’s strengths and attract more investment like this that results in real jobs.

“I want to congratulate PayPal on their success in Ireland over the past 9 years. I am delighted that Dundalk will now see the benefit of this success. Recruitment for these high quality positions begins in July.”
