Louth Fianna Fáil TD Seamus Kirk has said he is dismayed by the British government’s plans to consider the Sellafield site among locations for the development of a next generation nuclear plant.
“This is extremely worrying and is causing great concern among communities in County Louth,” said Deputy Kirk.
“It appears as though the concerns raised by Environment Minister Phil Hogan with British minister Chris Huhne have been completely brushed aside.”
“I will be raising this issue in the Dáil and I am urging the Minister to again make contact with Minister Huhne and stress that any further development at Sellafield is unacceptable to Ireland and should not take place.
“The Minister must express publicly, in the clear possible terms, that any plans to develop a new nuclear power plant at the site in Cumbria are being met with anger and frustration.”
