Louth TD Seámus Kirk has called on the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar TD, to establish a tourist trail between Connaught and Cooley Táin.
Arising from a number of Parliamentary Questions submitted by Deputy Kirk, he has asked that the Minister and the various tourism agencies to examine the potential of a Connaught to Cooley Táin trail as well as examining the tourism potential in relation to the Viking discovery along the Mid Louth Coast
“Tourism is a vital ingredient to selling Ireland home and abroad and I think that an in-depth analysis of a tourism trail from Connaught to Cooley would be vital in attracting visitors to the North East. Not only will this bring visitors but also create employment and give the area a much needed boost.
“It would be of considerable benefit to tourism development in the Cooley peninsula and also the Mid Louth area. The tourism hospitality sector has unrealised potential in Mid Louth and at a time when the economy urgently needs job creation, this analysis would be very beneficial for the area.
“Along with the recent discovery of the Viking site in Annagassan, I think it would be worthwhile to develop a new strategy for tourism in Louth, promoting the historical, cultural and social aspects of the area.”
