Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher TD has hit out at Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s description of opposition questions about broken promises on Roscommon Hospital as ‘pathetic’.
He commented, “In the Dáil today, the Leader of the Opposition Micheál Martin sought to express some of the anger that is felt in Roscommon and around the country following Fine Gael’s abandonment of pre-election promises on health. At its core, the issue Fianna Fáil is raising is very simple – Fine Gael deliberately and systematically misled voters around the country on the future of local hospitals.
“In response to a calm and reasonable question on this, the Taoiseach lashed out, describing the charge as ‘pathetic’. This will come as a slap in the face to the thousands of protestors who have come to Dublin looking for answers and the many thousands more who remain at home, angry that they were misled and voted on the basis of untruths.
“There is nowhere for Enda Kenny or the Fine Gael party to hide on this issue. They made solemn promises, in full possession of the facts, and abandoned them the instant the votes were counted. There is nothing ‘pathetic’ about seeking to point this out and hold this Government to account for their own decisions.”
