Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Dublin Bay South Cllr. Jim O’Callaghan has reinforced the importance of the Special Criminal Court in ensuring that criminal gang members are brought to justice.

Speaking at a Fianna Fáil press event this morning Cllr. O’Callaghan said, “The circumstances surrounding the trial for the murder of Kieran Keane in Limerick in 2003 epitomises the need for the Special Criminal Court in Ireland.  729 people asked to be jury members in Limerick and it was not possible to get twelve to agree to attend because they were too afraid of what would happen them.

“This level of fear and intimidation is not acceptable in a modern democracy and further emphasises the need for the Special Criminal Court”.
