‘The decision by An Bord Pleanála to refuse permission to construct the bypass of the N2 at Slane Village is a severe body blow to the people and village of Slane’ said Senator Thomas Byrne.
‘Today, along with local Fianna Fáil Councillor, Wayne Harding, I learned with great sadness that the Bórd had upheld objections to the proposed infrastructure project’
‘I am calling on Meath County Council and the National Roads Authority to seek immediate legal advice to check the feasibility of a judicial review of this decision.
It seems to me that An Bord Pleanála chose to ignore certain sections of the Meath County Development plan which calls for a bypass of Slane while using other aspects of the Plan in relation to Brú na Bóinne to refuse the application’
‘An Bord Pleanála, in my view, also seems to have adopted for itself the role of the NRA and the Minister for Transport in determining roads policy’ added Senator Byrne.
‘There is a significant urgency and Meath County Council must meet immediately in order to gain approval for this request for a judicial review. My colleague, Cllr. Wayne Harding has already requested this in writing to the Cathaoirleach of the County Council and we await his reply’.
