Delegates at the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis have unanimously endorsed the most radical reform to the party’s organisation structure, including the adoption of a One Member One Vote system and the toughest ethical rules of any political party in the country.
Party Leader Micheál Martin said: “A strong message I have heard at my meetings throughout the country is that Fianna Fáil must again be a party which is informed by, and committed to the concerns and experiences of our members in communities. Today’s historic rule changes will play a significant role in bringing that about.
“If Fianna Fáil is to be renewed then it must change the way it operates – we have taken a major step this afternoon to empower members to take a greater role within the party and in their communities. They have unanimously endorsed proposals for the new One Member One Vote system and a series of major reforms that will mean Fianna Fáil has the toughest ethical rules of any party in this country.
“The reforming, dynamic agenda for this weekend’s Ard Fheis demonstrates how serious Fianna Fáil is about renewing itself in order to provide credible policies in response to the challenges the country faces.”
