Why is the Government doing nothing to avert commuter chaos? – Dooley

Published on: 05 November 2015

Fianna Fáil Transport Spokesperson Timmy Dooley has said it is extremely disappointing to see the Government sitting idly by while commuters are to be disrupted by industrial action.

Deputy Dooley said: “Commuters face more disruption tomorrow and it seems Minister Paschal Donohoe and the Government are intent on doing nothing to avert the strike.

“Dublin is on show to 40,000 visitors this week with the Web Summit.  How many more ways is the Government going to find to show us up with the international audience it generates?

“Thousands of commuters will have to find alternative ways to get to work tomorrow if this industrial action goes ahead.  By all accounts all sides in this dispute seem to expect the stoppage to go ahead at this point.

“The Government has an obligation to ensure our public transport network functions and functions well for all users.  I am surprised Minister Paschal Donohoe has done so little on this matter.  The Government seems content to just let this dispute roll on at huge financial cost to Irish Rail and significant disruption for rail users.”
