Donnelly works on next steps for green community centre – Donnelly

Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow Stephen Donnelly has met with the Little Bray Community Centre team and representatives from Powerscourt’s Cool Planet Experience to get going on the next phase of support for Fassaroe.

Speaking following the meeting, Deputy Donnelly commented, “Phase one was an energy retrofit for the community centre. This was done in collaboration with Crowley Carbon, Cool Planet, SEAI and community volunteers, and will free up valuable cash for the Centre as energy bills fall.

“Having completed this first phase successfully, we’re now looking at the next steps, including the potential for more extensive energy savings for the Centre via extensive retrofitting of the buildings. If we succeed, this could be an exciting pilot project for community facilities all over Wicklow and around Ireland.

“In order to meet this goal of reducing usage even further, the centre will require further investment and support to replace the roof and fit further insulation. This second phase will require State and possibly local Government support. We are also exploring opportunities for young people in Fassaroe to get more involved.

“Little Bray Family Resource Centre do amazing work in the local community. The team is a source of constant inspiration to me. Anything and everything we can do to support them, and the community they serve, will be pursued.”
