Fianna Fáil TD for Longford – Westmeath Robert Troy has welcomed the news that one of Europe’s largest holiday resort firms, Center Parcs, has formally submitted a planning application for a €233m development near Ballymahon.

Deputy Troy commented, “I have been a long supporter of this proposal and I am delighted to see that Center Parcs have formally submitted a planning application to develop a top quality tourist resort in Longford. Center Parcs first looked at Longford as a potential area to invest in as far back as 2004 and it is welcoming to see the project continue to progress.

“This investment highlights the potential that exists to grow the tourism industry in Longford over the coming years. Longford County Council need to work alongside local and national representatives to ensure we are best placed to take advantage of the investment potential on offer by companies such as Center Parcs.

“The development will lead to the creation of 1,000 permanent jobs once it is fully operational and there will be a further 750 jobs created during construction. This planning application is a step forward for the project, but it is important that we continue to work hard to secure the development and bring much needed jobs to Longford over the coming years.”
