Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne has called on the Government and the Enterprise Section of Meath County Council to work together to safeguard up to 120 jobs at Geith International.
There are concerns that the company, which is based in Slane, is set to dramatically reduce its workforce in the coming days, following a meeting the Company had with workers on Friday.
Senator Byrne commented, “There have been growing concerns over the weekend that Geith International is set to significantly downsize its workforce in Slane. It is thought that up to 120 jobs are currently at risk.
“It’s important to note that no official announcement has been made by management at the company yet. We need a co-ordinated effort by the Government and the Enterprise Section of Meath County Council to save these positions which are under threat.
“Geith International has been based in Grangegeeth, Slane for over 50 years. It is an important source of good quality economic activity in the area and the loss of these jobs would cause massive damage to the local community. The Government and all of us need to pull out all the stops to ensure these jobs are retained,” said Senator Byrne.
