Fianna Fáil’s Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Michael Moynihan TD has responded to news that Eirgrid are now abandoning controversial plans for a pylon route from Cork to Kildare.
Deputy Moynihan commented, “This plan made no sense from day one. Opposition groups were clear in their analysis that it wasn’t needed and in their assessment of the damage that it would cause. But the Government knew better and pressed ahead.
“In the process they split communities, caused genuine distress on the part of very many people and incurred significant costs. Now, on the eve of an election, the opposition groups have been proved correct and the plan is abandoned. It is deeply cynical and I hope that it is not just a pre-election stunt.
“The Minister Alex White should apologise to the communities affected for what he has allowed them to go through.”
