Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Disability and TD for Cork South West Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has congratulated a group of CIT students after they scooped the top prize in an international design competition.

The students from Team Stryde Tech designed and developed a device which helps people with mobility issues get from a seated to a standing position. They won the gold medal at the Global Student Innovation Challenge, which took place in Canberra, Australia.

Deputy Murphy O’Mahony said, “I was to extend my congratulations to Stryde Tech for developing this innovative and practical device. It will improve the lives of people with mobility issues, not only here in Ireland but potentially across the world.

“I’m delighted that their design has been acknowledged and rewarded.

“This win highlights the huge talent pool we have here in Cork and it is testament to the students themselves. Social innovation is incredibly important and the fact that they have been recognised on the global stage is exceptionally exciting for the team and their lecturers at CIT”.
