O’Brien urges Fingal businesses to register for EORI number as no deal Brexit looms

Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin-Fingal, Darragh O’Brien, has urged local businesses in Fingal to register for an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number as the potential of a no deal Brexit increases by the day.
An EORI number, issued by Revenue, is the minimum requirement for businesses that wish to trade with, or through, the UK following their departure from the EU. Any businesses who trade with non-EU countries are required to register this with the Revenue via their EORI number.
He commented, “I would urge Fingal businesses who trade with the UK to register for an EORI number as soon as possible. This is a crucial requirement needed post Brexit.
“In Fingal we have many businesses in the Agri and Tech sectors who trade with the UK. Without an EORI number business with their UK customers will effectively stop.
“Registration is a free and quick online process and could save businesses difficulty in the long run. The reality is that there is limited time left to prepare and the government’s communication strategy to date has left a lot to be desired.
“We are less than 90 days from a no deal Brexit and there is little to nothing coming from government by way of advising business how best to prepare. Latest figures released to Fianna Fáil tell us 65,000 businesses, which equates to approximately 70% of all businesses that traded with the UK in 2018, have not yet obtained an EORI number.
“I am strongly urging local businesses to register for an EORI number as soon as they can by contacting Revenue, it is a straightforward process. I am also calling on the government to step up their preparedness campaign to assist business to trade in a post October 31st Brexit landscape,” he concluded.
