Fianna Fáil Leader pays tribute to Con Houlihan

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin is saddened to hear of the passing of Con Houlihan, describing him as “one of Ireland’s most respected and talented sports writers.”

Deputy Martin said: “Con Houlihan was quite simply one of the greatest sporting writers and commentators the country has seen.  His talent and contribution to sport over many years was enormous.

“Over his long and distinguished career in journalism Con Houlihan displayed a great enthusiasm, not just for his writing, but for the sports themselves including GAA, football and rugby.  He has written about so many triumphs in Irish sport over the decades and his work is as much a part of Irish history as the events themselves.

“Con will be long remembered as one of Ireland’s finest sports writers and a great Irishman.  I want to extend my deepest sympathies, and those of the Fianna Fáil party, to Con’s family and friends at this time.”
