HSE needs to set timeline for Douglas Primary Care Centre – McGrath

Published on: 01 July 2019

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork South Central Michael McGrath has welcomed the latest moves to progress a new Primary Care Centre in Douglas and has called on the HSE to set out a timeline for its delivery. Advertisements have now been placed in national newspapers seeking expressions of interest from individuals or companies to develop the health facility.

Deputy McGrath said, “While I welcome this progress on this much needed primary care centre, it is only the first step in a long process. The population of Douglas has increased substantially over the past decade and these services are urgently needed. This primary care centre will play an important role in our community and I sincerely hope the process can move along efficiently.

“It makes sense to move key health services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy into a community setting, rather than forcing people to attend appointments in hospital. It makes these services more accessible and the multidisciplinary team will be equipped to provide a range of advice clinics and medical services.

“I am particularly pleased that developers have expressed an interest in progressing this project, so I am hopeful that movement will be swift. I will continue to liaise with the HSE and the Health Minister to ensure that the project can get underway as soon as possible on this much needed health centre”, concluded Deputy McGrath.
