FF calls for immediate publication of de Buitléir report

Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Health, Stephen Donnelly TD, has said the report produced by Donal de Buitléir, which looks at the removal of private health care from public hospitals, should be published immediately and debated at the Joint Oireachtas Health Committee.

He commented, “The report, produced by Mr. de Buitléir, should be made public for all to see. The Minister and his officials have the report for weeks now and are planning to hold and hide it until the autumn.

“The main areas of this report include the implementation of Sláintecare and focus on the public and private in public hospitals. Sláintecare committed to a health care system that is supposed to treat everyone, across the country fairly. At this week’s Health Committee meeting I discovered that there are separate entrances planned for private and public patients at the National Children’s Hospital. This leaves my party and I with concerns as to what the de Buitléir report may detail for public patients.

“A report of this magnitude should not languish on a desk in the Minister’s Office and the Department of Health. It should be published and debated openly at the Health Committee,” concluded Deputy Donnelly.
