Lack of communication highlights further failings of CervicalCheck programme – Smyth

Published on: 14 June 2019

Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, has raised her concerns with the lack of communication and awareness in respect of laboratories uncovered in the Scally Report into the CervicalCheck scandal.

She commented, “On the back of the Scally Report there have been concerns raised around the lack of communication regarding the laboratories used for testing in the CervicalCheck programme.

“The Taoiseach, his government, and the HSE should have been able to detail what laboratories were used. Up to 250,000 tests were read in labs that had not been approved by CervicalCheck and uncertainty is rife following the publication of the report.

“The government, HSE, and Minister should take on board the report from Dr. Scally to ensure greater transparency and communication play an integral role in the outsourcing of tests,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
