Sinn Féin launches latest attack on middle income workers

Fianna Fáil TD, Jack Chambers has described as unacceptable Sinn Féin’s continuing attempts to deny the implications for ordinary workers of its plans in relation to USC.

His comments come as Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Finance, Pierce Doherty confirmed once again that his party would introduce the USC for those earning over €28,500.

Deputy Chambers said, “Sinn Féin’s proposal is typical of their approach to try and trick the public. While they claim to look after low and middle income earners, Sinn Féin actually wants to increase tax for people on a modest income. It is clear that ordinary workers will be significantly worse off under Sinn Féin.

“By contrast Fianna Fáil will maintain marginal rate tax relief and are committed to eliminating the USC for all income earners on the first €80,000 of their income over five years. Our focus is on investing in public services while protecting low and middle income earners.

“Fianna Fáil is offering the centre ground alternative on income tax. Our proposals in relation to the USC are the fairest being proposed. They are realistic, balanced and deliverable in practice.” concluded Chambers.
