Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Disability Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has congratulated Dublin Airport on winning an award for being the most accessible airport in Europe. The award was announced at the 12th annual best airports award.

Deputy Murphy O’Mahony said, “I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the staff and management at Dublin Airport for winning this prestigious award. It highlights that they are putting disability inclusion at the heart of what they do on a daily basis. This makes a tremendous difference to people with disabilities and their families. It’s clear that we can be world leaders in terms of accessibility and disability inclusion when we put our minds to it.

“Disability inclusion should be a key consideration for all public buildings and spaces. It is essential that we continue to remove barriers which prevent people with disabilities from leading full, active and independent lives. We must look to Dublin Airport as a model for how we can achieve this.

“Significant barriers remain for people with disabilities in terms of accessing adequate transport. Far too many train stations in Ireland remain inaccessible to people with disabilities. We also need to work to increase the number of vehicles in the taxi fleet which are capable of catering for people with disabilities. I will be working to ensure that the Government is held to account on this issue. Significant work is still needed to improve disability inclusion right across Ireland,” concluded Deputy Murphy O’Mahony.
