Fianna Fáil Announce Seanad Responsibilities

Published on: 08 June 2016

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD today announced the portfolio responsibilities of the Party’s team in Seanad Éireann.

Deputy Martin commented, “As the 25th Seanad sits today for the first time, I am delighted to announce the portfolio responsibilities for our team.  It is clear that the Seanad is going to play a very important role in the implementation of new politics and the passing of legislation.  Fianna Fáil has a very strong team in the Oireachtas and we are determined to make our presence felt in both houses in a very constructive way.  Our Seanad team will play a key part in that effort.

“Alone among the country’s political parties, Fianna Fáil campaigned against the attempt to abolish the Seanad in the last Dáil.  We stood on a platform of reform and highlighted the potential of the upper house if there was reform of how it does its business.  I am confident that this Fianna Fáil team can take forward that campaign for reform and demonstrate the potential of the Seanad in influencing public debate.”

Sen. Catherine Ardagh Group Leader & Spokesperson on Social Protection
