Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Trade Darragh O’Brien has today pledged support for European Movement Ireland’s voter registration initiative.

The #PhoneAFriend campaign encourages Irish people living in the UK, and British people living in Ireland, to register to vote in the forthcoming UK EU referendum.

Deputy O’Brien was responding to figures released by European Movement Ireland, which show that there are 9,723 British citizens living in the constituency of Dublin – Fingal.

“With fewer than 37 days to go to the UK’s referendum on EU membership, I am calling on all those who are eligible, to register to vote by 7th June and have their say on June 23rd”, explained Deputy O’Brien.

“While this is ultimately a decision for Britain to make, several reports have highlighted the very serious implications for Ireland across a wide range of sectors including financial, trade, travel, tourism and agri-food. Therefore, I aim to make all eligible voters aware of their right to vote in this important referendum.

“It’s my hope, and that of my party, that Britain votes to remain as a member of the European Union.”
