Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs Dara Calleary has welcomed the announcement that almost €6m is being invested by Bausch and Lomb at its Waterford facility.
Deputy Calleary said: “This investment will be very welcome news for that staff at Bausch and Lomb who have had a very difficult few weeks and courageously supported a tough restructuring at the company involving redundancies and pay cuts.
“This announcement will see the production systems upgraded at the plant and I hope this will lead to new business opportunities which could grow the facility and increase employment.
“I want to again commend the workers for the commitment they have shown in keeping Bausch and Lomb a strong and vibrant part of the economy in the south east.
“The commitment and sacrifice shown by the workers is in direct contrast to the lack of commitment and the lack of action by the government in dealing with the challenges facing Waterford and south east. How many more wake-up calls does this government need?”
