Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Brendan Smith TD, has expressed his condolences on the death of Gerry Conlon.

He commented: “I would like to express condolences on behalf of myself and the Fianna Fáil party on the sad passing of Gerry Conlon.

“Gerry was the subject of a deeply unjust miscarriage of justice but his dignity and grace during his detention and upon his release resonated with families all over Ireland and around the world.

“Gerry campaigned tirelessly on behalf of people who had suffered similar injustices and he was also known throughout the world for his work with Miscarriages of Justice Organisation.

“My thoughts at this time are with Gerry’s family and wide circle of friends.

“Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.”
