Collins welcomes CPL investment in Limerick

Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick, Niall Collins, has welcomed the announcement that CPL is to create 142 jobs at its plant in Foynes.

Deputy Collins commented: “Today’s announcement by CPL is a significant boost to Limerick and coming on the same day of the launch of the Limerick 2030 initiative, it gives the county a much needed lift.

“CPL has decided to invest €20 million in its new bio-fuels facility at Foynes port. Since the smoky coal ban was introduced in all the major cities by the last Government, its success means it will be extended to all parts of the country by 2016.

“The smoky coal ban has been estimated to have saved 350 deaths in Dublin alone annually since 1990. The environmental impact has also been significant in reducing smoke and sulphur levels in the major cities and towns.

“There have also been massive benefits to consumers as many have now switched to more cost efficient and less polluting fuels.

“I hope the investment by CPL in Foynes will lead to a lot more jobs down the line and with Northern Ireland also planning to ban smoky coal by 2016, there is huge potential for the company.”
