Hogan ignores public concerns and presses ahead with Monster Sewerage Plant – O’Brien

Dublin Fingal Senator Darragh O’Brien has said he is extremely disappointed that all public objections and concerns have been ignored by Fingal County Council and the Government as the location for a new monster sewerage plant is to be announced next week.

Senator O’Brien said: “Minister Phil Hogan and Fingal County Council have completely ignored the genuine concerns and objections of residents in north Dublin to the building of this new sewerage plant, which isn’t needed.

“There are three possible sites selected for the plant, Newtowncorduff which is two kilometres west of Lusk, Annsbrook, east of Ballyboughal or Cloghran & Clonshaugh two kilometres from the Airport.  The final location for the plant is to be announced on Monday (June 10 ^th ).

“Residents have been working hard to raise their concerns with the government and with the local authority but they been met with complete silence.  The proposal is to have this facility processing 1,000 Litres of sewerage per second.  It is dangerous to the community, the environment and the quality of life of residents and should not be built.

“It is gravely disappointing that Phil Hogan has not seen fit to meet with representatives from Reclaim Fingal Alliance.  The Alliance also sought an opportunity to raise their concern with Fingal County Council last year but this was blocked Fine Gael and Labour members.

“The residents in Fingal deserve to be listened too on this issue.  Fianna Fáil is completely opposed to the building of this monster sewerage plant and will continue to support residents in highlighting the dangers of this plan.”
