Kirk welcomes opening of eBay European headquarters in Dundalk

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Séamus Kirk, has welcomed yesterday’s opening of eBay’s new European headquarters in Dundalk.

Deputy Kirk commented: “The opening of eBay’s European headquarters in Dundalk is a very significant development for the area. eBay has been a mainstay in Ireland for a decade and with 1,450 more people to be employed in Dundalk during the coming few years, it will be a huge boost to the local economy.

“The positions in customer support, operations, sales and compliance represent a huge opportunity for people in the North East. We have a rich pool of highly skilled talent from Dundalk IT and hopefully with the right training and reskilling, unemployed people in the region can fill some of the new positions.

“There will also be a knock-on benefit to the local economy and the service industry in Dundalk and further afield. The fact that a multinational like eBay has decided to locate its European operations here is a vindication of the hard work that has been done to make the North East an attractive area to locate industry.

“Hopefully this can lead to more companies and employers locating here in the future. The many different people and bodies that brought about eBay’s expansion should also be commended for their hard work and diligence.”
