Kelleher calls for IMO rethink on MYGP.IE costs

Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson, Billy Kelleher TD, has called on the new President of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) to show leadership and allow the findings from the HSE investigation into the €2.3 million spent by the organisation on the mygp.ie website be published.

Deputy Kelleher commented: “The new President is taking over at an important time for the IMO and he will want to establish himself as being committed to openness and transparency following the recent controversy about the previous CEO’s remuneration package.

“One way for him to do this quickly and comprehensively would be to allow the details of the HSE’s investigation into the money spent on mygp.ie to be published by the HSE and to instruct staff to release all the details about the website project.

“While the mygp.ie project was a worthwhile initiative, it enjoyed significant investment of taxpayers’ money.  It is important the public be reassured that this money was spent by the IMO in an appropriate way, that proper procurement procedures were followed in all cases and that there was no conflict of interest in the appointment of suppliers.

“Dr Matthew Sadlier has an important opportunity to demonstrate it is not going to be a case of ‘business as usual’ at the IMO.  He should seize that opportunity by lifting the gagging order that was put on the HSE in relation to the mygp.ie investigation immediately and let the public be reassured that the money involved was spent in an appropriate way.”
