Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has confirmed that he has accepted TV3’s invitation to participate in a debate between political party leaders tomorrow night. He has also expressed regret that the leaders of the other pro- Stability Treaty parties have refused to join the debate.
Deputy Martin commented, “It is my strongly held view that the leaders of political parties have to take responsibility for their policy platform and be prepared to debate those positions robustly. This TV3 event is the first cross party TV debate of its kind on the treaty and represents an important opportunity to engage with the large number of undecided voters. Those advocating a ‘Yes’ vote need to take every opportunity to make the point that the treaty, while imperfect, is an important step on the road to stability.
“I’m hopeful that those who are joining me in the debate will engage in a robust, respectful and informative debate about the important choice our country faces.”
