Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has appointed Clare TD Timmy Dooley has Director of Elections for the forthcoming Referendum on the Stability Treaty.

Deputy Martin said: “I have appointed Timmy Dooley as Director of Elections for Fianna Fáil’s Referendum Campaign today.  Timmy, as a member of the Sub-Committee on the Stability Treaty, has been making a constructive and positive contribution to the debate so far and I have no doubt he will continue to add to the standard of the debate in the weeks ahead.”

“The next six weeks of this campaign will be extremely important for the country and Fianna Fáil will be focussing on why we believe voters should support the treaty.  Fianna Fáil will have a full and active campaign in the weeks ahead, urging voters to vote yes on May 31 st .

“I have a number of concerns about how the Government has approached the issue of the referendum to date.  I want to see both Fine Gael and Labour put their traditional political act of the past year aside for the good of this campaign and chart a positive message for voters.”
