Ó Cuív welcomes major jobs boost for Connemara

The announcement today that the global pharmaceutical company Mylan is to create 220 jobs in Connemara is a major boost for the area, according to local Fianna Fáil TD Éamon Ó Cuív.

Deputy Ó Cuív said: “Mylan is the largest pharmaceutical company of its kind in Ireland and currently employs 700 people. The fact that it has chosen to expand its Bioniche operation in Galway so significantly over the next five years is a vote of confidence in what we have to offer in terms of a highly-skilled work force and favourable business conditions.

“This proves that the Galway Gaeltacht remains a very attractive place to do business. Over the years Co Galway has built a strong reputation as a global hub for research & technology, particularly in the area of pharmaceuticals and medical devices,” said Deputy Ó Cuív.

The Galway West TD said Bioniche has been a valued employer in Connemara over the past 25 areas with the strong support of Údarás na Gaeltachta. He said the area stands to benefit significantly from the expansion announced today.

“These 220 new jobs to be created over the next 5 years will be highly-skilled positions that will add real value to the local economy.  I want to congratulate Mylan and the IDA on this investment, and Údarás na Gaeltachta for all the work it has done with Bioniche over the past number of years. I wish the company continued success in the Galway Gaeltacht into the future,” concluded Deputy Ó Cuív.
